Global Workshop: The National System for GHG Inventories

| Topic | Value |
|---|---|
| Official Title | Training Workshop on the National System for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories |
| Date | 24th - 28th January 2011 |
| Venue | FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy |
At this page you may find a short summary of the first CD-REDD II Global Workshop, a joint effort of the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN), UN-REDD/FAO, Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut (vTI), focused on the National System for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories. This training workshop was convened at the FAO Headquarters, Rome, Italy, from 24th to 28th of January 2011. Among the participating organizations there were representatives of
As a follow up to the kick-off meeting held in Bonn in May 2010, this first CD-REDD II Global Workshop was organised by the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) in collaboration with GIZ, UN-REDD/FAO, vTI, and UNFCCC.
The workshop informed experts from participating countries on technical requirements and institutional actions needed to establish a national GHG inventory. The attendance of two nationals from each country was striving. In the attempt to identify the most relevant participants, the involvement of, on the one hand, an officer representing an administrative body with the capacity to ensure the setting of the national system in that country, and on the other hand, an expert belonging (or who will belong) to the unit responsible for the GHG inventories and reporting was obtained.
The workshop proceedings are available for download (PDF file, 6MB).
You can find the presentations held at the workshop as video files in the table below (Windows Media Video (WMV)). These videos consist of the presentation overlayed by the voice of the presenter. You may follow the order as given in the agenda of the workshop and click on each topic to open the video (right-click and 'Save as...' saves the video on your machine). Another possibility would be to download the presentation as PDF file. Please click on the '(pdf)' link instead.

| Official Title | Kick-off Workshop for Sustainable National Greenhouse Gas Management Systems in Eastern and Southern Africa |
| Date | 7th - 9th March 2011 |
| Venue | Port Louis, Mauritius |
The objective of this workshop was to take stock of past and current activities on GHG inventory work in the participating countries, and assess the needs for additional training and support on techniques, tools and strategies to set up a sustainable GHG inventory management system towards producing transparent and high quality GHG inventories. Emphasis was given to the agriculture and land use related emissions as these sectors are a major contributor of GHG in most of the countries of the region and has generally not received in-depth consideration.
Here you find the Agenda of the event. Some presentatioins are linked, additional material on the workshop could be made available after approval by the organisers.

| Topic | Value |
|---|---|
| Official Title | 2nd Global Workshop: Progress Assessment |
| Date | 4th December 2011 |
| Venue | Riverside Hotel & Spa, Durban, South Africa |
In this page you will find a short summary of the 2nd Global Workshop, a joint effort of the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN), UN-REDD/FAO, Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut (vTI), focused on the assessment of progress made throughout the past year (2011) in the participating CD-REDD II project countries. This global workshop took place during COP-17 in Durban, South Africa, on the 4th of December 2011. Among the participating agencies were invitees of:
- BMU
- CfRN
- GEF
- GIZ
- UNREDD/FAO
- vTI
As a follow up to the first Global Workshop: The National System for GHG Inventories held in Rome, January 2011, this workshop was organized by the CfRN in collaboration with GIZ and vTI.
The objective of this global workshop was to assess the state-of-the-art and the progress made in participating countries. Since the project kick-off in June 2010, there have been several activities on global, regional and national level to provide knowledge through specific training on the requirements and elements to implement a GHG inventory, to identify important actors in the inventory process, as well as to support each individual country corresponding to their national circumstances.
This global workshop served as a platform to exchange in-depth information at country level as well as on the current status of the implementation of the national GHG inventory. This will be the basis to plan future activities at national level, to be scheduled in the framework of the project.
The workshop contents were recorded and made available in the same format as those of the first global workshop. You can find the presentations as video files in the table below (Windows Media Video (WMV) files). These videos consist of the presentation overlayed by the voice of the presenter. You may follow the order as given in the agenda of the workshop and click on each topic to open the video, the pdf or you may download the whole package of presentations here (ZIP-Archive, ca 26 MB). If you right-click and choose 'Save as...' you will be able to save the data on your machine. A workshop report with a summary of the held presentations is available here.
